I’m buying cards of this player because he has 82 career major league home runs and he’s just 25. I’m buying baseball cards of this player because he has a ton of potential. I’m buying baseball cards of this player because he plays for my favorite MLB team, recently traded, to the New York Mets. Yes, I’m talking about Jeff Francoeur.
There was an article in today’s New York Daily News, talking about how Jeff Francoeur has brought life to the Mets clubhouse and a pretty potent bat too. Met favorite and batting coach, Howard Johnson, is partially responsible for the new pop in Francoeur’s bat. Johnson apparently noticed something right away in Francoeur’s swing, that was corrected and boom. Power is back.
In 2006, at the tender age of 22, Francoeur hit 29 homers in his first full season in the bigs. Since then, his homer totals have declined. Even this year while playing for the Braves, Francoeur had only 5 homers in 82 games. BUT…..in his 19 games with the Mets so far, Jeff has 4 home runs already (to go with 19 RBI). Two of those homers have been in cavernous Citi Field. Francoeur is poised for success as a New York Met. The Mets may be having a tough time right now, but when they have their first string players back, to go with the new found pop in Francoeur’s bat, you’ll see a whole bunch of runs cross the plate in Flushing, New York.
My first addition to my Francoeur collection is a 2008 Upper Deck Heroes Autographed Game-Used Card numbered to 10. I’ll post a pic when I get the card in the mail
