We’re more than halfway through 2009 and there has already been a plethora, yes I did just use the word plethora, of baseball card sets released. I’m not going to blab about a ranking criteria here, I’m just going to list the top 5 baseball cards sets of 2009, based on my humble opinion.
1. Allen and Ginter
Why? Because it’s still one of the most unique, high quality baseball card sets released. Ever. You know that the design had a lot of thought and creativity put into it when you’re wife sees a box of these cards and says, “Wow, that’s cool.”
2. Goudey
Why? Because I like retro baseball card sets. And on-card autographs.
3. Topps Heritage Baseball
Why? See above.
4. Topps Series One
Why? It came out early, and it’s got some of the best photography we’ve seen in years.
5. Topps Finest
Why? One autographed rookie letter patch card per mini box. And a real high quality stock card. Not cheap, but worth it if you’ve got the dough to spare.
There are plenty more baseball card sets to be released this year, so this list very well could change by year-end. I’m looking forward to Ticket to Stardom, Goodwin Champions, SP Authentic and Triple Threads. We’ll have to wait and see how these releases compare to the baseball card sets above.
