Are there too many baseball card releases today? It used to be, not too long ago, that there were four or five primary card manufacturers (including Topps, Fleer, Donruss, Upper Deck and Score), that each put out two sets a year; one regular set and one traded set. There were plenty of cards to collect for your average collector, and not so many that you couldn’t keep track of them all.
Today, although your primary manufacturers are Topps and Upper Deck, they each put out several releases every year. And we also see Donruss coming back into the picture along with Razor.
You’ve got Chrome sets, High Series, new sets almost every year like Upper Deck X, throwback sets like Allen and Ginter, and the list could go on. It’s a lot to take in.
Personally, while I fully appreciate the nostalgia of a simpler time in card collecting (it was a simpler time for sports in general), I like the amount of baseball card releases today. It let’s you pick and choose exactly what you want to collect. And the variety of cards out there can really keep your interest in the hobby going.
So, what do you think? Too many releases out there, just enough, or bring in more?

In this hobby you can’t buy everything! There are more products released than I care to know about, but it gives the collector choices.
