2007 Upper Deck Black Baseball Release

December 9, 2007

On or about December 19th, 2007, Upper Deck will release it’s acclaimed “Upper Deck Black” baseball card set.  The going price for one hobby box is roughly $250.  So, what exactly are you getting, for the same price that you could get four new car tires for?

For starters, each card in this set is autographed.  Each card.  On top of that, each autographed card will be number to 99 or less.   Not bad.    This high end baseball card set will really be a collector’s set.  It’s not for picking up at your local candy shop or department store.  With card names in the set such as “lustrous,” “triptych,” and “upper echelon,” you know that this will be a unique product.

Making this product even more unique is what you will get in each hobby box.  You will get two cards.  Yes, two.  There will be two packs with one card in each pack.  Interesting.

Included in the set will be “Pride of a Nation” autographed rookie cards, such as this one for Daisuke Matsuzaka.

There is also the possibility of finding autographs on cards with pieces of game day tickets, box scores and even lineup cards.  So is it worth roughly $250 a box for two cards?  Only your interest in this product and the hobby market will tell.

Upcoming Release

November 10, 2007

On November 21, 2007, Topps will be releasing the 2007 Topps Sterling Baseball set.  This premium baseball card set will contain 254 base cards featuring 29 baseball legends.  The price for one of these baseball hobby boxes will not be cheap, by any means.  (You can currently find a box going for about $240 pre-sale online.)  However, since this is a premium baseball card set, you will be getting some quality material.

Within each hobby box purchased, you’ll find at least one triple relic baseball card or autographed triple relic baseball card (numbered to 10 or less.)  Some of the players you can look for in this set include:  Roberto Clemente, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, and Ted Williams.  There will be sterling cut signatures for the baseball players, each a one-of-one which will certainly carry some value on the open market.

Within each box, with the player-specific premium cards, you’ll also find a mystery pack.  Within these mystery packs will be a released total of 1900 letter patches from star players of today and yesterday.  Each baseball card featuring a letter patch will be an exclusive one-of-one.

If you can pony up the $240 for a box, you should have a chance at finding some high quality collectibles, sure to you add value to your baseball card collection.
