So you’ve just cracked open a new pack of baseball cards, and you find a nice jersey patch card of your favorite player. Sweet! It’s a real nice card, and you want to keep it that way. How do you go about it? Insert it in a toploader? You could do that, but there is a chance that the corners could get bent, and, that the card might actually be too thick for the holder.
Tackling the bent corner dilemma first, you’d want a more secure way to keep your card. Either a screw down (one or four screw,) or a magnetic one-touch card holder might be your best bet. But how about the thickness of the card? How do you handle that?
Well, standard baseball cards, are measured by the paper size used to create the cards. A standard card is about 20 pts. Okay, so you know that, but how do you figure out the size of the special card you’re holding, which you want to protect at all costs? There is a very helpful guide that will aid you in solving this problem. The eBay guide to sports card holders should give you at least a starting point for how to solve the problem.
Basically, the guide indicates that you should measure your special card by stacking standard cards next to it to determine the appropriate size (in pts.) holder you should be using. If the special card is three regular cards thick, when compared side-by-side, then you know that you should be using a 55-pt. (rounded down from 60,) holder to keep your card secure.
Take a look at the guide, and use your best judgement. It’s beneficial that there are a multitude of card holder sizes offered on the internet so you should be able to find what you’re looking for to keep that sweet card secure.
