On July 30, 2008, the annual National Sports Collectors Convention will kick off in Chicago, IL. The convention, which will be hosted by Tristar Productions, will feature an autograph signing by Hall of Fame Cubee Ryne Sandberg.
There will be many more athletes signing. You can check out the whole list here. Understandably, there will be quite a few former Chicago athletes signing. Nice to see that Fergie Jenkins will be signing for free. The site says that you can get one auto per person, while supplies last. Does that mean that they’ll be giving out supplies, like pictures, to be autographed? Or are they talking about the supply of Fergie’s arm endurance?
Some of the more interesting signees include: Rudy Ruettiger, Bobby Hull, Chuck Bednarik, Randy White, Jim Taylor, Bart Starr, and Paul Hornung (are they really going to let all these former Packers into the city of Chicago?).
I’ve never heard of this Convention before, have you? It looks like it might be a cool event, if you’re local. There will be plenty of Hall of Fame athlete signings, and plenty of collectibles and memorabilia to purchase.
One of the highlights of the convention should be the display of Dmitri Young’s personal baseball card collection.  According to Joe Orlando, Professional Sports Authenticator President, “This is one of the greatest runs of post-World War II baseball rookie cards in the hobby. The vast majority of cards are the finest examples known.” Dmitri set out to collect the finest MLB Hall of Fame rookies from 1948 to 1990. He’s succeeding in that endeavor. Read more about Dmitri’s collection here.

You’ve never heard of this show??? The name “National Sports Collectors Convention” is the formal name of the show lovingly, and simply called, “The National.” THE BIG ONE. This is the mecca of card shows (if you want to call it that).
This show is held once a year in different parts of the country (it rotates between Chicago, Cleveland, Anaheim, and other cities). And the last time Chicago (Okay, Rosemont) had the show was in 2005.
Sincerely,
