Most Valuable Baseball Cards Sold on eBay

I thought it might be helpful, or at least interesting, for other card collectors to know what single baseball cards sold for the most money recently on eBay. Why? Because if you are collecting cards, or investing in cards, for value, you want to be knowledgeable about which ones sell for the most money. Yes?

I’m going to try to make this a regular post on Card Collector Universe. We’ll see how it goes. Today’s post will cover cards sold between May 4 and May 17, 2009 on eBay. Only cards that sold, and only single cards (no lots) will be shown. Here we go.

1.  1952 Mickey Mantle, Yankees, Card #311, Graded SGC 86. This card sold for $80,000 on May 6.  That’s a lotta dough.

2. 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, Yankees, Card #311, Graded PSA 7.

This card sold with a best offer of $32,500 on May 12. When you’re involved in a transaction of a card of this high value, you want to make sure it gets safely from the buyer to the seller. That may be the reason for the $195 shipping charge.

3.  1952 Topps, Mickey Mantle, Yankees, Card #311, Graded SGC 80.

This card sold for $26,650 with a best offer on May 9.  Curious that a card graded SGC 80 would sell for less than a card graded PSA 7.  Any ideas why that might be?

4.  1909-11 T206 Piedmont Sherry Magie (Magee), error card, Graded PSA 3.5.  This card sold for $18,126.05 with a winning bid in auction on May 4.

The misspelling of his name created one of the most sought after error cards of all-time.

5.  2008 SP Legendary Cuts, Abraham Lincoln, Hair / Auto, Card HCS-AL.  You’re just not going to see too many of these cards.  And that’s why the 2008 vintage card (but not 2008 vintage signature) sold for $17,500 on May 8.
