Dawson in 2010, Bagwell in 2011?

Congratulations to “The Hawk” on his nomination into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Wasn’t really expecting this, but I’m certainly glad to see him get in. He was an exciting player to watch with lots of pop at the plate. Funny how it takes some time for certain players (Jim Rice) to get nominated. Saw somebody post about how they don’t understand why it takes so long for some players eventually get in. I agree. Do the voters suddenly come to their senses about the player’s worthiness for the Hall? Is there that much of a voter turn-over? Does it take them that long to research the player’s performance over his career? Are they just making the players wait? Anyway, glad to see Dawson going to Cooperstown .

Surprised though about Alomar, and Larkin too. So much of the talk was about Alomar and the buzz was that he was going to be a first ballot HOFer. You look at Alomar’s stats and accolades, and you gotta wonder why he didn’t get in on the first ballot. Many people agree it’s a matter of when, not if, Alomar will get in. Larkin should be in also, but who knows? I mean, you play shortstop for one team for almost 20 years, that’s worthy of being recognized in and of itself isn’t it?

Who’s coming up next year for Hall nomination.

Jeff Bagwell
Bret Boone
Al Leiter
Benito Santiago
John Olerud
Larry Walker
Juan Gonzalez
Kevin Brown
Tino Martinez
John Franco
Rafael Palmeiro

Of the group above, Jeff Bagwell should be a first ballot HOFer, in my opinion (then again, most people thought Alomar would be too). Palmeiro has the numbers but there’s the steroid thing that will keep him out. Juan Gone has the numbers too. As it was proved in this year’s vote though, you never know who will be going to Cooperstown until the ballot results are announced in early January.
