Baseball Card Awards 2009 by Beckett

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

It’s the end of the year 2009, not to mention the end of a decade, so it’s time to do the “best of” thing again.  Seeing how my fellow collectors view the best baseball card products of the year is actually very interesting.  Many of the “best of the year” stuff is boring, but not this type of list, at least in one collector’s opinion.  If you want to cast your votes, and see how your fellow collectors voted on categories like, “best baseball card product of the year”, “best Topps product of the year”, “best box to open for fun and variety”, etc., then head over to Beckett online. Nice job, folks at Beckett. Happy New Year to all! Here’s to a 2010 filled with short prints and on-card autographs for everyone.

Ticket to Stardom and Goodwin Champions

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Alright, here are the scans for you, of a few cards from my first packs of Ticket to Stardom and Goodwin Champions.

First card is Mr. David Wright on a “Big Ticket” card.  Nice crisp, clear photo, with the Mets skyline logo on the front of the card.

Okay, here are the base cards from Ticket to Stardom.  First is another Metropolitan, Jose Reyes.  The scans don’t really do the cards justice.  The typeface is fairly small, but it gives you all you need to know.  I like the action photos with the white border and the ticket look.  Incidentally, this particular card has serated edges, like it was part of a real ticket stub.

Next up is Robinson Cano with another nice action shot.  Looks like he’s either leaving the batter’s box, or heading to second base there, based on the background.

The Goodwin cards below look real good on-screen, I have to say.  It doesn’t translate as much into the actual card stock, when compared to A&G though.  But checking out the cards now, via scan, they do look sharp.

Below is a guy by the name of (more…)

Ticket to Stardom and Goodwin Champions First Impressions

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

I was at Target today with my wife and daughter and I couldn’t resist picking up a pack of Topps Ticket to Stardom and a rack pack Upper Deck Goodwin Champions.

I like the concept of Ticket to Stardom, and I was impressed with the cards. High quality card stock and nice photos. The rack pack of Goodwin Champions wasn’t as impressive to me as I thought it might be. I like the concept. It is very similar to Allen and Ginter. The quality of cards just didn’t resonate with me as much as Allen and Ginter has. Personal preference I guess. (Could it be that I got three Mets cards in my Ticket to Stardom pack and none in the Goodwin pack? Maybe.)

Scans of some of the cards to follow……………
