Easy Way To Maintain Baseball Card Values

December 18th, 2007 · 3 Comments

So I went to the local hobby shop the other day and picked up one of them there “one touch” magnetic card holders.  Have you ever used one of these for your baseball cards?  I gotta say, it’s pretty sweet.  Basically, if you haven’t been using these already, it’s a thick clear plastic card holder that is kept closed by a small round magnet (at least in the Ultra Pro model I bought.)

Compared with the screw down card holders, this magnetic card holder is a breeze.  With the screw down card holders you have to be concerned with fitting that tiny screw into that tiny hole, if you can even hold the thing, while trying to balance a tiny screw driver on the screw and making sure it doesn’t go in crooked and leave a big gap in the closure.

The magnet that secures the card holder closed is strong enough so the holder doesn’t pop open with light jostling, but not so strong that you need any sort of tool to open the thing up.  Just apply some pressure with your fingers and the card holder will pop open and you can put your best Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, or Johan Santana baseball cards in there for safe keeping.

If you haven’t already picked up one of these magnetic one-touch baseball card holders, I’d recommend you do.  As a baseball card collector, you want to maintain the value of baseball cards you already own, right?  This card holder will keep your cards safe and secure, and you won’t have to visit your local hardware shop before you begin storing your best baseball cards.

I haven’t seen the magnetic holders yet. How much do they cost?

Hey Joey, I picked mine up for $1.49 at the local shop. Looks like you can pick up 25 of them for roughly 45 bucks from some online stores. Can probably find them even cheaper on eBay.

[…] have them covered with some sort of hard plastic cover as well though.  Maybe a screw down or a one-touch magnetic hard plastic case.  And then you probably have the card either displayed prominently, or stored […]
