Most Valuable Baseball Cards Sold on eBay - May 18 to May 29

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

In a previous post, I showed you the most valuable baseball cards actually sold on eBay for early May, 2009.  Let’s continue looking at the most valuable baseball cards that sold on eBay from the date of that post through today.

1.  1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, Yankees, Card #311, Graded PSA 4.  This card sold for $11,000 on May 22nd.  What some might consider a slight difference in grade, can have a big impact on card value as this sale proves.  In the last post, we saw this same card, graded PSA 7, go for almost three times as much money ($32,500).

2.  2008 SP Legendary Cuts Babe Ruth Auto, Yankees, Card #BHC-BR, Number 10 of 10.  This card went for a mere $7,000 with a Best Offer.  Actually, $7K is a nice realization for a 10 of 10 card for the seller, even if it is the Sultan of Swat.

3.  1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, Yankees, Card #311, Graded PSA 2.  Our favorite card went for $6,500 with this card grade on May 18.

4.  1933 Goudey Babe Ruth, Yankees, Card #52, Graded PSA 5.  This card sold for $4,950 on May 24.  One of the most iconic baseball cards, this would be a sweet card to add to any baseball card collection.  Incidentally, this card was bought from a seller with less than 97% feedback rating.  That takes some guts (or a whole lotta money in the bank) to make a big purchase like that.

I think I see a theme developing here with these valuable cards……………..

5.  1953 Topps Mickey Mantle, Yankees, Card #82, Ungraded (yes, ungraded).  The buyer paid $4,157.06 (why not .07??) for this baseball card on May 26.  The seller had 100% feedback and backed up the quality of this card, which was deemed to be in Nr Mt. to Mt. condition.  Nice pick up for the winning bidder……at a very odd price.

2009 O-Pee-Chee Baseball

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Nice to see a new release of an old brand this year.  2009 O-Pee-Chee baseball is a new Upper Deck baseball card set which will be available for collectors in June of this year.  This baseball card set is at the center of the Upper Deck and Topps controversy that lit up earlier this year.

In each hobby box of 2009 O-Pee-Chee baseball, you’ll get 36 packs of cards with 6 cards per pack. You’re going to find, on average, one base set parallel card per pack. Not bad. As far as auto and memorabilia guarantees though, you’re seeing one three-swatch material card in every three hobby boxes on average. There are signature cards, but no guarantees per hobby box. You should get one base set parallel mini design card per hobby box though.

Hobby boxes are currently in pre-sell for between $50 and $60 depending on where you look.
