You want more 2009 Upper Deck? You got it. 2009 Upper Deck Series 2, available to collectors in May, will give us the familiar look of Upper Deck Series 1 Baseball with a few extra goodies.

You still get 16 packs per hobby box and 20 cards per pack, and it’ll run you about $70. You’re also getting an average of two memorabilia cards per box.New in this release are the 1977 “O-Pee-Chee” throwback cards. Gotta tell ya, when I heard that Topps had brought a lawsuit against Upper Deck for copying their designs, I thought “well, so what”, just focus on making new and better cards and providing a better experience for collectors. Now that I see these cards, wow. It is Topps design from 1977, but they’re allowed to do it on a technicality, using the name “O-Pee-Chee”. In any case, it’s a cool card design, I think, and I seriously doubt it will have any negative impact on sales of Topps 2009 products.

Group 3 of the 20th Anniversary Upper Deck cards will also be available in this release, and they’ll be inserted at a rate of 1:2.If you’re prospecting, Upper Deck Series 2 baseball might be interesting to you. The USA Baseball 18U National Team will be included in this set, with regular cards inserted at a rate of 1:4 and Team Jersey Autograph cards inserted at a rate of 1:225.If you liked Upper Deck’s 2009 Series 1 baseball release, you’ll probably like Series 2.
