The 2008 Topps Updates and Highlightsrelease will available starting in mid-October. This is the familiar updates release made by Topps around this time of year, each year, that harkens back to the Topps Traded releases.Â
You’ll find some special stuff in this year’s release.Â
What you need to know:
- One relic or autographed card per hobby box
- A hobby box will cost you around $50
- Rookie chrome refractor box loaders included
- 197 traded players (from 07-08 Hot Stove and 08 season) included
- 100 framed mini-silk card parallel cards; numbered to 50
- 1 of 1 Player Sketches
- 2009 World Baseball Classic Preview
- All-Star t:Â cards featuring players with swatches of their All-Star workout jerseys
- First Lady cut signatures - up to 41 cards featuring authentic auto’s of the first ladies
- Ring of Honor autographs - players who have one a World Series Ring featuring their auto
- The Mickey Mantle Story - 10 cards featuring highlights from the 1957 season
- Baseball Card History buybacks
So……..should you buy a hobby box of this release as a collector? Not for the design; we’ve already seen most of it this year. But definitely for the price, for the amount of parallels, auto-combinations, traded players, historic cards and the World Baseball Classic. At about $50 a box, this set is definitely a buy.Â
